Learn more about the new Post-Master's Certificate in Qualitative Research

The Post-Master’s Certificate in Qualitative Research prepares graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, current faculty, and others with the skills needed for the full range of qualitative inquiry methods used in social research.

This 12-credit-hour certificate is an interdisciplinary program that includes qualitative method-intensive courses in multiple departments. It allows doctoral and other post-master students and professionals to expand their methodological training and pursue a research-intensive career. The program consists of two required courses covering the foundational knowledge of qualitative research and essential textual data collection and analysis methods.

Based on their research interests and academic goals, students select two elective courses from the wide range of qualitative methods courses provided by the ERME program and other departments, such as interview research, qualitative case study, and narrative inquiry.

Upcoming Funding Q&A Sessions for Faculty and Staff

The first session for the fall will begin on August 15. These sessions are held on the first and third Mondays of every month from 3-4 p.m.

Fall 2022 Admissions Deadline Extensions

To maximize new enrollments for the fall semester, the Fall 2022 admissions deadline for doctoral, master’s, and certificate programs has been extended from Monday, August 1 to Monday, August 15 at 11:59 p.m. EST.  The post-baccalaureate application is also extended to August 26. Applications submitted after this deadline will not be accepted.

If your program has reached capacity, please be aware that you do not have to accept any additional applicants.

Prospective students who are currently out of the country and need an F or J visa to enroll may simply not have sufficient time to apply, be considered for admission, be admitted, and complete the process to obtain an I-20 and a visa before the last day to enroll in the fall semester.

Belk College of Business Launches Online MBA

The Belk College of Business soon will offer an online MBA in three high-tech concentrations to address the needs of an increasing number of professionals seeking an alternative path to an advanced degree.

New Program Offers Alternative Path to STEM Doctoral Degree

A project of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science (MEES) is providing an additional path to a doctoral degree for STEM students, allowing patentable projects to be developed to meet capstone requirements in addition to publication of original research.

The program, Pathways to Entrepreneurship (PAtENT) expands the opportunity to earn a doctoral degree, possibly spurring graduation rates and encouraging technological innovation. Funded by a National Science Foundation Innovations in Graduate Education (IGE) award received last fall, the program provides each faculty-student team with $5,000 to support research.

“The central goal of the project is to develop an alternate roadmap for STEM PhD students that is scalable and reflects the rapidly evolving workforce needs,” said Dr. Terry Xu, Professor and Associate Chair for Graduate Programs, MEES.

QA Certificate Boosts Educational Outcomes

The Graduate Certificate in Quantitative Analyses program targets experienced educators, counselors, and other professionals who seek to deepen their statistical skills for improving educational outcomes.
Who should apply:
  • Current graduates students earning their master’s or doctorate can use elective hours to complete the certificate
  • Current faculty and staff with an interest in refreshing or adding to current quantitative analysis skills
  • Potential Ph.D. students who have earned a master’s degree in an education-related field can first earn the doctoral level certificate and apply all 12 credits to the ERME Ph.D. program.

Final Defense and Submission Deadline Extended

The Graduate School has extended the final defense and submission deadlines for all Master’s and Doctoral students who plan to graduate in Fall 2020.
