Graduate Recruitment Director Presentations Scheduled

I am pleased to invite you to attend candidate presentations for the position of Director of Graduate Recruitment, followed by a Q&A session. Two highly qualified individuals with extensive experience and a strong commitment to graduate education have been selected for campus interviews.

During each presentation, the candidate will provide their vision for innovative approaches to reach and engage prospective graduate students and also share an example of a recruitment campaign and the data utilized to measure/evaluate its efficacy. Your presence, insight, and valuable feedback in the candidate selection process are highly appreciated, as we anticipate the new Director of Graduate Recruitment will be a vital collaborator on campus to drive strategic enrollment efforts. GPD Participation Urged for Upcoming Recruiting Opportunity

Graduate Admissions will host a virtual information session for prospective graduate students on February 21st from 12:30-1:30 pm, and we invite GPDs to participate and recruit students to your program. Additional details about the information session as well as the RSVP for GPDs and Affiliates to participate is available from Graduate Admissions. Please RSVP by February 1st if you plan to attend. Mar. 1 Deadline to Participate in NCUR

The Graduate School is attending the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), hosted by the Council on Undergraduate Research, taking place from April 8-10 in Long Beach, California. The Council on Undergraduate Research advances undergraduate research in all disciplines, culminating in the annual NCUR conference. NCUR offers a unique opportunity for graduate programs to engage with more than 3,500 undergraduate scholars to identify prospective graduate students at the conference’s ‘Future Fair.’

The Graduate Admissions booth at the NCUR conference has limited space, but we invite program representatives to join us as there is an opportunity to add additional representatives if there is interest. Please share this opportunity with Graduate Program Directors in your colleges and encourage them to join the Graduate School in recruiting future students already engaged in undergraduate research. The School of Data Science also plans to participate and already has a booth reserved.

The deadline to register is March 1st. Please reach out to Ellie Ivey (efeely@charlotte.edu) in the Graduate School for additional information on registering independently or as part of the Graduate Admissions booth.

Graduate Admissions to Provide "Eligible to Register" List

Graduate Admissions is again providing GPDs with a list of new and continuing students in their program who are eligible to register but have not. The report will be distributed weekly from start of registration until the close of registration for each term.

Programs are encouraged to reach out to these students and urge them to register.

2023 SAEOPP McNair/SSS Scholars Research Conference June 23-25

The McNair/SSS Scholars Research Conference is scheduled for June 23-25 in Atlanta, attracting undergraduate and graduate students from all TRIO programs within the U.S. and the Trust Territories.

The conference will provide opportunities for young scholars to share their research, provide exposure to the key issues in research and higher education, facilitate the interaction between graduate school representatives, graduate faculty, McNair and SSS scholars, and provide forums for discussion of intellectual issues.

ABRCMS Biomedical Research Conference Set Nov. 15-18

The Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists (ABRCMS 2023) will take place in Phoenix, AZ, November 15-18 and is the place to connect with the most talented and diverse scientists in STEM.

For over 20 years, ABRCMS – recipient of the 2019 AIMBE Excellence in STEM Education Award – has been the go-to conference for underrepresented community college, undergraduate and post baccalaureate students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. As ABRCMS has continued to grow and evolve, it has also become a space for graduate students, postdocs, faculty, program administrators and more.

The Graduate School has paid for one booth.  If you would like to attend, and reserve a space in the booth, please contact Maryanne Maree-Sams at MaryanneMaree-Sams@charlotte.edu. The cost is $625.00 to join the Graduate School booth.  There is a separate cost for housing (filling up quickly).

American International Recruitment Council Offers Certificate in International Student Recruitment

The American International Recruitment Council (AIRC) is offering a Professional Certificate in International Student Recruitment and Enrollment online between Dec. 2023 and Sept. 2024.

Through AIRC’s Professional Certificate in International Student Recruitment and Enrollment, recruitment staff can develop a recruitment and marketing strategy and earn a certificate and digital learning badge.

The GRE Program of ETS will present A Guide to Holistic Admissions Apr. 27, 3-4:30 p.m.  The event will feature presentations by former UNC-Greensboro Graduate Dean Terry Ackerman and Georgia State Associate Dean of Strategic Initiatives John Augusto.

The session will address practices that promote fairness, processes that mitigate bias, and strategies that can help achieve your enrollment goals.

Webinar: Using GRE Search in Student Recruitment

The Graduate School Recruitment team is hosting a virtual session on April 5th at 12:30pm for Graduate Program Directors and Coordinators to learn how to utilize the GRE Search to recruit prospective students. This session will cover the benefits of the GRE search, best practices in creating the parameters, and how you can get started!

The session will last about 30 minutes and have time for questions and discussion following the presentation.

Exceptional undergraduate students attending UNC Charlotte are encouraged to apply to graduate programs and begin work toward their graduate degree before completion of their baccalaureate degree. In those programs offering this outstanding opportunity, undergraduate students can get a head start on their graduate degree.

OIC Offers Country Culture Workshop on Nigeria

The Office of International Programs (OIP) at UNC Charlotte will host a Country Culture Workshop on Apr. 14 focusing on Nigeria, a country from which Charlotte is seeing increased enrollment.

The Country Culture Workshop will include presenters and student panelists to explore the language, etiquette, cultural norms, political history, and other key nuances unique to this country.  The event will include an opportunity to experience Nigerian food provided by a local restaurant.

GPDs are encouraged to participate in this workshop to learn more about Nigeria and the students who enroll from there.
