New Time-to-Degree Data Available
Updated time-to-degree data by degree type and program (degree + major) is now available for Academic Year 2021-2022. Time-to-Degree data for earlier academic years is also on the report. Program leaders should analyze the information in conjunction with the retention, graduation, and attrition data available on the Institutional Research dashboard to determine if particular attention steps should be taken to improve student achievement.
Leaders at Equitable to Discuss Purpose-Driven Leadership
At a Nov. 10 workshop, leaders at Equitable will explain how the company has remained adaptive in a changing marketplace and adopted new ways of working while expanding its environmental, social and governance priorities.

Information Session to Cover Graduate Application Process and Employee Tuition Waiver
Graduate Admissions will host a Faculty and Staff Application Information Session Nov. 3 12:30-1 for employees to discuss the application process and tuition waiver benefits available to employees.
Maryanne Maree-Sams and Ellie Ivey of Graduate Admissions will be on hand to answer questions about the application and admissions process. Jessica Kapota, Director for Learning and Organizational Development will address the tuition waiver program available to qualified employees to cover tuition expenses for up to three courses per academic year.

Application Date Extended for Spring Diversity Scholars Forum
The application date to enter research projects in the Spring Diversity Scholars Forum has been extended to December 16.
The Graduate School is seeking to feature graduate student research related to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). The Forum will provide a showcase for research on campus and in the greater Charlotte community.

Your Help is Needed to Maximize Spring 2023 Enrollment
With less than two months until the end of the fall semester, we urgently need your help to 1) admit the class and 2) increase the yield of new and continuing students who enroll for the 2023 spring semester.
Towards that end, please:
- Review and make admissions recommendations on the 626 applications currently Ready for Review (in Slate) and any additional applications that become complete.
- Nominate eligible students for graduate assistantships and funding, if applicable.
- Advise and encourage new and continuing students to register early for spring courses. Pre Registration begins October 31st.
- Connect with students via emails, calls, texts, and meetings to address their questions and build their enthusiasm to continue their graduate education at UNC Charlotte.
The spring 2023 and summer/fall 2023 reports are available on GPDNet for your reference. Reach out to Graduate Admissions and Graduate School staff for information and assistance, as needed.
Novant to Lead A2i Session on Success
Kim Henderson, System Chief of Staff to CEO and Enterprise Officer at Novant Health will lead discussion of The Seven Ingredients to Success in a Accelerate to Industry (A2i) workshop scheduled Friday, Oct. 28 at noon.
Hosted by the Center for Graduate Life and Learning, the session will be held in Atkins 146.
A2i is a workforce development program that allows graduate students to explore diverse career paths with our industry partners in the Charlotte region and beyond.

Upcoming Commercial Service Program Aims to Boost Women in STEM programs
The U.S. Commercial Service is offering the USA: A Study Destination Virtual Connection Program focused on U.S. STEM programs for women, November 14-18, 2022, to help U.S. educational institutions quickly build a network of reliable contacts throughout the globe to recruit women to STEM programs.
U.S. Commercial Service diplomats and education specialists will participate in the program and will be available to advise U.S. institutions on market selection, education policy, landscape, and understanding foreign students’ preferences. The cost to participate is $500 USD.

Deadline Extended for 3MT Participation
Registration to compete in this year’s 3MT program has been extended through Oct. 21.
This year’s 1st place winner will receive $1,000 and a funded trip to represent Charlotte at the Conference of Southern Graduate School’s (CSGS) Annual Meeting in Tampa, Florida.

New Graduate Program Portal Launches for Applicant Data
The Graduate School has released the new Graduate Program Portal for use by all program directors and associates. The new portal will be accessible directly from the Slate Reader Home page. It will replace the current “Applicant Data Download” link. We will be updating the user guide in the coming days.
While currently limited in scope, the new portal is extensible and plans are already underway for new features. Questions or feature requests can be submitted using a Slate Help Request.
Oct. 17 Deadline for Master's Thesis Nominations
Faculty may nominate students for the Outstanding Master’s Thesis Award through Oct. 17, 2022.
The Outstanding Master’s Thesis Award is a part of the Graduate School’s focus on enhancing research skills. New this year is a Non-traditional Thesis/Project category that refers to theses that do not conform to the traditional model, such as those produced in MFA programs both for literature and the performing arts. Graduate School to Move to Reese
The Graduate School and Graduate Admissions will soon have a new location to serve the UNC Charlotte community and prospective students near the center of campus in the Reese building.
Beginning on Monday, October 10, the Graduate School will be located on the fifth floor of Reese. Subsequently, Graduate Admissions will welcome prospective students to its new location on the first floor of the Reese building. Staff will continue to work in the Cone University Center, Room 268 until Graduate Admissions moves to Reese.

International Demand for U.S. STEM Programs for Women is the Topic of Upcoming Webinar
The U.S. Commercial Service will host an update on international demand for U.S. STEM programs for women Oct. 17, 11:30-12:30 p.m.
This webinar will feature speakers from Brazil, India, and Kazakhstan, as well as offer an around the globe snapshot of trends in target markets. Participants will learn more about opportunities to reach potential partners and prospective students for STEM programs.

Writing Retreat Set Oct. 10-11
The Center for Graduate Life and Learning (CGLL) will host the annual Graduate Writing Retreat Oct. 10-11 in Adkins 115.
The retreat provides an opportunity for students, faculty staff and community members to make progress on a large writing project.

Help Prospects Learn about Your Program
A virtual information session for prospective students on Oct. 19 will provide an opportunity to engage directly with a Graduate Program Director (GPD) to learn about admission requirements and the application process, opportunities for student engagement, and determine if a graduate program is a good fit.
Following a general admissions presentation, GPDs will be able to engage with prospective students and provide program-specific information. To participate, register by Oct. 5 with Graduate Admissions.
